Indian pledge

The pledge of our country is a part of daily assembly of almost every school. In my school we also used to repeat the following pledge every day in our assembly.

India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters.

I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall always strive to be worthy of it.
I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders respect and treat everyone with courtesy.
To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion.
In their well-being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness.
Jai hind!

I respect my country and all its rules and regulations but one thing was always in my mind. That one question which I always used to think I want to share here today.

First of all the first line- India is my country…

Yes of course India is my beautiful country and I love my country very much and I also proud to be an Indian.

But…..Here comes the second line-and all Indians are my brothers and sisters.

I mean really ??? All Indians are my brothers and sisters… Of course no..

How can it be possible. I can’t accept every person of India as my brother and sister.

May be this line was introduced in the pledge just to make sure that everyone treats every other person gently and behave in a good manner but this is not right that we should respect our brothers and sisters only.

We should respect everyone who deserve respect. I can’t call a rapist my brother or a criminal my sister. In India it is an untold rule that you should call every random boy Bhaiya…

Like all rikshawala, autowala, driver, watchman, shopkeeper, Liftman….Etc. It is our culture to call every other boy Bhaiya or brother…

I don’t call everyone brother, because I don’t think it is necessary and I never thought during the pledge so…that all Indians are my brothers and sisters. I always thought I’ll call only those person as my bhai for who I actually feel like.

And one more thing if all Indians are my brothers and sisters then where should I go for my husband!!!….Abroad?

Answer me if you know and please no offense because I love my country very much. I’m not disrespecting my country and take my words as said it is simple as written…🙂

      1. Definitely!!! I mean.. if it’s a pledge, it has to be one that doesn’t get defied at a later stage.. I mean we can’t just call everyone brother and sister.. “if u know what I mean (evil smile!) 😈”!!
Let us wait and watch.. till the time it is changed, let us keep skipping it😉😉

  1. And we used to say all Indians are abc’s brother and my sister. 😀 😛
This is the mystery no one can solve. I don’t mind calling other girls as sister but that brother thing needs to be changed. 😛

  2. Good one. I feel so nostalgic now. The line in the pledge was added to promote the idea of universal brotherhood/sisterhood rising above regionalism and religions.
